How to Practice Smarter on a TrackMan Simulator

How to Practice Smarter on a TrackMan Simulator (Without Wasting Your Session)

We’ve all been there: you book an hour on the simulator, grab a bucket of balls, and start swinging away without a clear plan. Before you know it, the timer hits zero, you’ve hit 100 drives, and your game hasn’t actually improved.

At 365 GOLF, we believe that time on our TrackMan simulators is the most valuable tool in your bag—if you use it correctly. Because TrackMan provides unparalleled accuracy and real-time data, every swing is an opportunity to #levelup.

Here is how to practice on a TrackMan simulator so you can stop “just hitting” and start training with purpose.

The Essentials

1. It’s Time for a Warm-Up

It’s tempting to walk in and start swinging out of your shoes. But if you want your session to be productive, your warm-up matters. Start with wedges—specifically from 50–100 yards.

  • Build a Distance Map: Use your early wedge work to calibrate. What does your stock 60-yard swing carry? What happens to spin when you move ball position?
  • The “Feel vs. Real” Check: Use the video analysis to see if what you feel in your swing matches what the TrackMan is actually seeing.
  • Calibration: Simulator feedback makes wedge work incredibly efficient because you’re not guessing. You’re learning exactly what your swings produce.

2. Start with the Why: Dialling in Your Data

The biggest mistake golfers make is ignoring the numbers until they hit a bad shot. To practice smarter, you need to establish your baseline.

  • Yardage Gapping: Use the first 15 minutes of your session to confirm your carry distances. TrackMan’s Shot Analysis feature is perfect for this. Don’t guess if your 7-iron goes 150 yards—know it.
  • Focus on One Metric: Don’t get overwhelmed by the data. Pick one specific metric to improve during your session, such as Club Path or Face Angle.
  • The Feel vs. Real Check: Use the video analysis to see if what you feel in your swing matches what is actually happening on the screen.

3. Take the Test Center Challenge

If you want to add a bit of pressure to your session, head into the TrackMan Test Center. This is where you can run a TrackMan Combine or create a custom test for your “trouble” distances.

  • The 60-Yard Test: Many amateurs struggle with partial wedges. Set a test for 40, 60, and 80 yards and see how consistent your dispersion is.
  • Tee Shot Test: Hit 10 drives and look at your “North to South” dispersion. This data will tell you exactly how much room you need on a real fairway to keep the ball in play.

4. Practice Plans for Every Session

To ensure you aren’t wasting a single minute, try following one of these structured plans:

The Quick Tune-Up (60 Mins)The Deep Dive (60 Mins)
10 min: Warm up (Wedges & Mid-Irons)15 min: Yardage Gapping (all clubs)
20 min: Yardage Gapping (Dialling in 3 key clubs)20 min: Shot Shaping (Practice fades/draws)
20 min: Target Practice (Random distances)15 min: Test Center (Combine or Custom Test)
10 min: Play 2 holes at a world-class course10 min: Driver Optimization (Speed & Launch)

FAQs

Do I need to bring my own clubs?

Yes! To get the most accurate data for your game, you should always practice with the clubs you’ll be using on the course.

Can I save my data?

Absolutely. The TrackMan app syncs directly with our simulators so you can review your session, track your progress, and show your coach your numbers later.

How do I handle “indoor swing syndrome”?

Focus on your pre-shot routine. Step out of the bay, pick your target on the screen, and commit to the shot just like you would outdoors.
